We print a discreet header or footer on each sheet rather than only on a cover, gum-bind the top or side edge so sheets tear away cleanly, and back the pad with 300 GSM board so it stays rigid enough to write on in hand.

Templates worth considering

Plain and ruled are the defaults, but a custom template often makes the pad far more useful and therefore more likely to be kept on the desk.
